Elementary Music Teacher in Yuma Arizona

Yuma is a border community of approx 80,000 with an influx of another 75,000 each winter as the winter people make their way to Yuma. Our district of seven schools (with another being built) has approx 6000 students and is rapidly growing. Yuma is one of the ten fastest growing cities in the nation. With average temperatures in the winter of 75; it seems like you are always on vacation! There is sunshine 350+ days per year and the rainfall average is 2″ per year.

We are located at the very southwestern tip of Arizona; only five miles from California and Mexico. What is even better is that we are located 2 1/2 hrs from Phoenix and San Diego and only five hours from Disneyland and Las Vegas. You get the big city lights without all the hassle of traffic and the hustle and bustle of big city life. The desert is a beautiful place to live year round and our schools are year round with a three week break in October, December and March and six weeks off in July/August. It is a great concept and allows for teachers to have a break every 45+ days and there is not such a lengthy break in the summer when it is so very warm.

Even better, you will have your first paycheck on August 9, 2002. Our schools are among the top in the state and our philosophy and mission are that ALL Students Will Achieve the Standards and the responsibility belongs to each of us! We are very proud of our schools, teachers and students and continue to see improvement in all that we are doing. We are considered a rural and impoverished district so there is a great opportunity to have college loans written down or off for your commitment to our district.

We also have approx 60% ESL students; with Spanish being their first language. Arizona does not have bilingual education so being bilingual is not a factor. We have a number of district-wide teaching programs in place. These include six-trait writing; Spalding reading/phonics and a strong emphasis on math. There is a very strong collaboration between all teachers throughout the district. We have a strong focus on frequent assessments and reteaching or spiraling to ensure learning is happening! The know all children are able, and will, achieve the state standards.

Our salary for a first year teacher at this time is $27,500 with an additional $1000 ESL endorsement stipend and a $1000 Special Education stipend. We also have a performance incentive that all teachers are eligible to receive. In addition to these stipends, we have an exceptional district-wide professional growth program, called career ladder. You may earn up to $3500 per year after the first year, and some of our more experienced teachers receive up to $7000, with our career ladder program. We pay $40 per day for unused general leave and it carries over to the following year.

You receive 15 general leave days per year. All benefits; medical, dental; vision, life; short and long term disability are paid by the district. Our goal is clear — and if your goal is to see that all children are successful, we may be the district for you. The certification requirements are that you take the Az Teacher’s Proficiency Exam and Arizona and U.S. Constitution during your first year of teaching with us. You must also get a fingerprint clearance card before teaching.

I would be more than happy to assist you in the certification process. I anticipate having openings in all PreK-6th grades and at the middle school level I project openings in math, science, Spanish, ESL and language arts. There is a high likelihood I will also need a music teacher. I look forward to hearing from you soon!

WE ARE CURRENTLY HIRING FOR THE REMAINDER OF THIS YEAR WITH A COMMITMENT TO TEACH FOR US NEXT YEAR. If you are hired for the remainder of this year; it may be to assist with other current programs if there is not actually an opening at our schools.
